Owensboro developer Malcolm Bryant has been named to the Kentucky Bar Association's board of governors by the Kentucky Supreme Court.

Four nonlawyers, like Bryant, serve on the board to represent the public during disciplinary proceedings for lawyers who are found to have committed ethical violations, the Supreme Court said.

"Malcolm Bryant has displayed strong integrity and dedication in his business and personal life," Chief Justice John D. Minton Jr. said in a news release. "He will be an excellent addition to the Board of Governors. With his high ethical and moral standards, I believe Malcolm's contributions to the board will help inspire public trust in the outcome of lawyer disciplinary cases."

Bryant was out of town Wednesday and couldn't be reached for comment.

He is president of The Malcolm Bryant Corp., a commercial real estate development, property management and brokerage company headquartered in Owensboro.

Bryant serves on the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corp. board as well as the Commercial Real Estate Council.
He has served on the Kentucky Homebuilders Association board in the past.

He was the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce's entrepreneur of the year in 1996, and his company received the Owensboro Mayor's Award for Business Excellence the following year.

Bryant was named outstanding young leader of Owensboro in 1986. He is the founding scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 10 and serves as chairman of the YMCA and The Learning Community in Owensboro.

Bryant also serves as director of Christian Youth Fellowship mission trips and sponsors international youth mission trips through Owensboro's First Christian Church.

The board of governors has 14 lawyer members and four nonlawyers. It meets at least six times a year.
